028. | Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette

For my final post of #PaletteWeek, I'm talking about the much-hyped Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette. I had heard such good things about this palette from those who had received press samples, that I placed an order on Sephora's website virtually the minute this palette became available. Although I don't have many Kat Von D products, those I do have are absolutely fantastic. All in all, I had extremely high hopes for this product. Keep reading to see how the shadows performed.

The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette contains twelve matte shadows. The palette is separated into three quads, which are neutral, cool, and warm in tone, from left to right. This is the first palette I've seen that is all matte, and contains a range of different tones. Although I'm not entirely convinced of the "eye contouring" concept, the utility of this palette is undeniable. This is the type of product I see myself reaching for nearly every time I do my makeup, as basically any matte shade I would need for an eye look is in this palette.

The formulation of these shadows is fantastic. Each and every shade is creamy and extremely blendable. Each shadow is very pigmented and can be built up true to color in pan, with two to three layers. I like shadows that can be layered to create a deeper opacity because I have more control over the shadow and more versatility the types of looks I am able to create.

The shadows are packaged in a matte black cardboard case, with raised black and gold lettering. The packaging is extremely nice, considering it is cardboard and not something more expensive. There is a large mirror opposite the shadows. The one odd thing about this palette is that each shadow is named after a different Latin demon. (This isn't totally confirmed, but I'm 95% sure after a quick Google search.) I know Kat Von D likes to push the boundaries, but I still find it a bit strange.

The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette retails for $46 and can be purchased here,

Neutral Quad: Samael, Solas, Lucius, Laetus
(Note: Lucius and Laetus are very pigmented. They happen to be nearly identical to the color of skin on this part of my arm.)

Cool Quad: Saleos, Shax, Liberatus, Lazarus

Warm Quad: Succubus, Sytry, Latinus, Ludwin
