004. | Essie Fishnet Stockings

Essie Fishnet Stockings is a nail color I frequently glazed over in the drugstore. I had an ongoing “pick it up, then put it down” relationship with the polish. Although red is my favorite nail color year-round, nothing about this seemed special to me at first. Plus, for the longest time, I had this false notion in my head that Essie reds didn’t perform well.

Just this week, I had a sudden urge to wear Essie Fishnet Stockings. (Yes, embarrassingly, I do get beauty cravings from time to time, the same way most people have food cravings.) I ran to two different drugstores to find this polish, and ohmygosh, am I happy I did. This is one of my new favorite, perfect reds. Keep reading for product details.

Essie describes Fishnet Stockings as, “Stilettos and stockings, this girl isn’t taking any prisoners. A spicy, dark creamy red lacquer that loves to stir up trouble is sure to get all the attention.” How perfect and sexy is that?! This description is enough to make me want to buy the polish all over again.

The color is a deep red cream, a slightly darker take on a classic red. I tend to prefer darker reds as a rule, because I think that they look most flattering on my skin tone. The formula is extremely pigmented and opaque. I believe I could have gotten away with using only one coat, but I ended up going for two, along with a base and a top coat. (The base coat I used is OPI Ridge Filler and the top coat is Revlon Colorstay.)

Overall, I give this polish five bright, shining stars. If I had to name a negative, the formula is a bit thick, so make sure to wipe the excess back into the bottle. Fishnet Stockings is similar to Forever Yummy, another Essie red that I love, but is a bit deeper.
